Listening to Arctic Sounds

We invite you to listen to whales, seals, and narwals underwater sounds. Then, using your creative and reflective side of your brain, create a visual, audio, or other type of artistic expression to create a visual or written reflection to the sounds you heard. Ideas for expression include poems, drawings, abstract art, graphics, etc...

Start by visiting Polar Sounds and/or Arctic Noise; then

  1. On Polar Sounds page click "Select a Region" and choose "Arctic"
  2. Scroll through the list to listen to bowhead whales, narwals, ringed seals, and bearded seals
  3. Listen carefully noticing texture, tones, rhythms, patterns, etc.
  4. Create an artistic reflection and post it to this Topic here in the Arctic Science Education Network

This activity is also included in an Arctic 101 Course to be released soon.
