Hi all! Welcome to the community. So, as many of you know, we have a great Facebook community for PolarTREC alumni. I'm sure many of you are on the group. The idea of this community is bring together educators and researchers and I think we have a good mix for the beta testing but I'm really anxious to learn how/what your needs would be to stay engaged in this community. Is there a tool or visual that would help? Would you feel comfortable posting a topic and asking for help on something? Would share a resource or event? Let us know how to make this space more useful. We can't replicate the love you all have on FB but we hoping to have more exchange and include more of the research community. All ideas are welcome!!

one of my first thoughts, would be perhaps to get it started with a "challenge"? That is one of the reasons I join a specific facebook group and try to follow up, because it holds me sort of accountable to myself to post, and to then follow along with others. Something like a " 30 day PolarScience Challenge"?
Oh I like that Polar Science challenge idea! The accountability piece is crucial I think especially if you want more collaboration between researchers and educators.
I like the 30 day challenge. It could also help to have a 'community buddy'. Perhaps a veteran and new teacher that pair up to explore the community together. They can hold each other accountable. Great way to meet teachers (every in the virtual world) and explore together.
Cara Pekarcik can you say more about this? Give us the more thorough idea? I'm curious about it and curious if you have seen this work elsewhere? Tell us more. :-)
Sarah Johnson - I am not really sure how this would work. It was really something that just popped into my head. Was just thinking that this platform could include people from around the world, so it could be interesting to find ways to connect participants who could touch base with each other once a week (or something) and share what they have explored on the platform, discuss ideas, etc. Just a way to make a more direct connections with someone. I would have to give it more thought.
Great ideas!
I also think it would be great if teachers were encouraged (or started? perhaps we can model this) sharing how they are teaching about polar science - it would be great if researchers also shared updates that were posted with how teachers could include this in mind (e.g., posting a photo that teachers could use to have students notice/wonder about something).
I'm wondering if a monthly Polar Poetry - (e.g. Haiku challenge) would be appreciated?
@Everyone - I'm curious to hear others' ideas about how this online community network could be most useful to you... please share.

I did a challenge around anti-racism with a model I liked: we had a list of resources to check out - podcasts, articles, etc. and each week, you could pick which resource to explore, based on interests or the time you could commit. Then we'd have a discussion once a week.
